Idea of Play Icon
This is a picture of the play button that you would see on a DVD player or VCR. It's a triangle that is pointed to the right and is completely by itself.
This is a Play icon. We've made it in iOS style, first introduced in iOS version 7 and supported in all later releases up until now (at least iOS 11). This style is based on thin two-pixel lines and is optimized for 50x50 px. Unlike other vector icon packs that have merely hundreds of icons, this icon pack contains 13,900 icons, all in the same style and quality.

Idea of Play Icon by Ivan from Icons8

We've received the idea on October 24, 2011 and created the icons on December 20, 2011

Media Controls: play, stop, pause, ffw etc.

Story about Play Icon

I decided that after five years I wanted to edit my standup comedy website (not that I’ve had many performances) and add free downloadable play icons to some of the most embarrassing videos the Internet has ever seen. Like that time I fell off of the stage because someone decided my face was hungry for some watermelon. Or the time I was booed out of a pre-school because I re-arranged the alphabet in the “wrong” way.

Sometimes I try to ask myself why I would even bother putting up these videos. After all, in each and every video no one seems to like me. I mean, I don’t think it’s going to boost my comedy career (if I even have one, that is).

If I think about it, the only good thing about putting these free icons on my website is that they are compatible with: That way, everyone is able to view them! (Hopefully)

I thought that I would hit a dead end like I usually do. But after five weeks and 3,000,000 views on my comedy videos, they didn’t seem so embarrassing. In fact, people loved them!
I’m now on a private jet drinking Chardonnay on my way to a major comedy club for a stand-up gig.

To sum it all up if you dig deep into your past and pull out some of your greatest accomplishments(failures) and show it to the world, it might take you somewhere. Just try.

We see it everywhere, but does anybody know where it came from? This awesome icon is obvious and it signifies just one subject. Besides, it can be adjusted to any design trend you like.

History

Actually, nobody knows the exact answer. They say that this icon came about in the 1960s, when reel-to-reel audio tape players were very popular. There is a point that the triangle was virtually an arrow which showed the direction of the reel.

The rapid growth of consumer electronics over the last few years helped drive this icon to incredible popularity. Nowadays every person knows what it indicates and what it’s used for. It is simple and clear, this abstract symbol makes everybody instantly understand the idea behind it.

Proper Use

The rewind icon and the fast forward icons are both derivatives of the play icon. The first one is usually depicted as two triangles pointing to the left, which intuitively means going backward. Why two? Because if one triangle indicates one speed, two indicate moving faster.

The opposite, two triangles pointing to the right mean going ahead. All ingenious is simple.
